Lagos, Nigeria — November 29, 2023 — The Pest Control Association of Nigeria (PECAN) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the PECAN National Secretariat, NUT Pavilion, NERDC Road, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. The event was a momentous occasion highlighting our achievements over the past year, showcasing our collaborative efforts with regulatory bodies, and welcoming 18 new esteemed members into the association.

Key Achievements of PECAN in 2023:
The AGM began with an address by our National President, Mr. Olakunle Williams, who outlined the significant accomplishments of PECAN over the past year. Noteworthy highlights included the successful executive elections held in November 2022, the transparent publication of our members in national dailies, and active participation in global initiatives such as WORLD Malaria Day and WORLD Pest Day.
Our collaborative programs with regulatory bodies, including LASEPA and EHCON, were particularly highlighted. A major achievement was our joint celebration of World Mosquito Day in Abuja, which underscored our dedication to addressing vector-borne diseases through partnership and advocacy.
PECAN’s commitment to transparency was further demonstrated by the publication of our members’ names in national dailies, recognizing their contributions and showcasing the diverse expertise within our association. Strengthened relationships with stakeholders and intensified collaborations with organizations such as NAFDAC and EHCON have solidified PECAN’s position as a leading professional body in pest control.

Expert Lectures and Training Sessions:
The AGM featured an insightful Mandatory Continuous Development Training Programme (MCDTP). Mr. Omotosho from LASEPA provided valuable insights on “Health & Safety in Pest Control Practices,” while Dr. (Mrs.) Rametu O. Mamodu, Director of vMAP at NAFDAC, addressed the crucial topic of “Handling and Abuse of Pesticides.” Dr. Cyril Akinyele, representing Professor Amadi, discussed “Pesticides Use, Handling, and Regulatory Framework,” covering important aspects of pesticide management.
Product Exhibitions:
The AGM also included a product exhibition where organizations such as Amobile Pest Clean Store, Rotimax LTD, Dfortune Pestshop, Pest Control Nigeria (PCN), and Pesticorp Associates Ltd showcased their innovations. The exhibition featured a range of products from public health pesticides and cleaning equipment to rodenticides and locally manufactured pest control solutions.
Awards and Recognitions:
The event concluded with an award ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions. A special award was presented to our National General Secretary, Mr. Ayodeji Oluleye, for his unwavering support and dedication to PECAN’s growth.
