Abuja, Nigeria — August 19, 2023 — The Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) and the Pest Control Association of Nigeria (PECAN) proudly launched the World Mosquito Day 2023 celebrations with a highly successful Road Walk event across Abuja. This initiative, which began at 8:00 AM, was a concerted effort to raise public awareness about the health risks posed by mosquitoes and promote effective mosquito control measures.

The event commenced with a substantial turnout of participants from EHCON, PECAN, and the general public, who assembled at Area 1, a central location in Abuja. The Road Walk traversed several key areas including Area 1, Area 2, Central Area, Zone 4, Zone 3, Wuse Market area, Zone 5, and Berger under the bridge. Participants were seen wearing branded T-shirts, polo shirts, and caps, and carrying banners with impactful messages aimed at educating the public about mosquito-borne diseases and prevention strategies.

The highlight of the day was the distribution of informative flyers and engaging talks delivered by members of PECAN and EHCON. The event was further enlivened by music and interactive activities, creating a vibrant atmosphere and fostering community engagement across all age groups.

In addition to the Road Walk, a critical focus of Day 1 was mosquito control efforts at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Kuchingoro, near Games Village. The assessment at the camp addressed various issues including sanitation, waste management, and pest-related challenges.

These discussions emphasized the importance of comprehensive mosquito control and public health education.
